Enrichment Classes › Rainbow Taiko

Rainbow Taiko

$210.00

Taiko is a musical tradition with deep roots in Japanese culture. Taiko (太鼓) are a broad range of Japanese percussion instruments. In Japanese, the term refers to any kind of drum, but outside Japan, it is used to refer to any of the various Japanese drums called wadaiko (和太鼓 “Japanese drums”) and to the form of ensemble taiko drumming more specifically called kumi-daiko (組太鼓 “set of drums”).

The Taiko drums used in our classes were made by a very dedicated group of parents years ago. The size of the class is limited to the number of drums we have.

Due to the increased number of students who are staying in Taiko, openings for Taiko begin in the first grade. The child starting in first grade would then move on to intermediate and advanced classes in second through fifth grade (occupancy allowing).

New students must purchase a Rainbow Taiko t-shirt ($15) to wear at all performances.
Instructors: Tomomi Hongo, Morris Ellis

New students may trial 1 class and register thereafter. Please email elmarinorainbowtaiko@gmail.com to request a trial. Note there is no guarantee of availability, as classes have limited capacity and are enrolled on a rolling basis.

TIME: Mondays
– Class 1: 3:30-4:15pm (1st grade and new 2nd & 3rd grade students)
– Class 2: 4:15-5:00pm (continuing 2nd-3rd grade students)
– Class 3: 5:00-5:45pm (4th-5th grade students)
