Rainbow Taiko (Closed for Spring)
Taiko is a musical tradition with deep roots in Japanese culture. Taiko (太鼓) are a broad range of Japanese percussion instruments. In Japanese, the term refers to any kind of drum, but outside Japan, it is used to refer to any of the various Japanese drums called wadaiko (和太鼓 “Japanese drums”) and to the form of ensemble taiko drumming more specifically called kumi-daiko (組太鼓 “set of drums”).
The Taiko drums used in our classes were made by a very dedicated group of parents years ago. The size of the class is limited to the number of drums we have.
Due to the increased number of students who are staying in Taiko, openings for Taiko begin in the first grade. The child starting in first grade would then move on to the intermediate and advanced classes in second through fifth grade (occupancy allowing).
Students may trial Taiko for the first class, but registration must be completed by the 4th class.
Students must have an El Marino Rainbow Taiko t-shirt ($15) to wear at all performances.
Instructors: Tomomi Hongo, Morris Ellis
